Avocado-Yogurt Egg Salad

Easy Egg Salad for Babies

This is an easy egg salad recipe for babies that is also healthy! Traditional egg salad is made with mayonnaise, which has more additives and sodium. This version is made with avocado and yogurt which makes the egg salad super creamy and delicious without the extra salt or other additives. This recipe is also a great source of protein and healthy fats!

Healthier Egg Salad

Why is this a healthier alternative to traditional egg salad?

  1. Reduced Unhealthy Fats: Avocado replaces mayonnaise, reducing saturated and trans fats, promoting heart health for your little one.
  2. Nutrient-Rich Ingredients: Avocado and Greek yogurt contribute essential vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats crucial for growth and development.
  3. Lower Sodium Content: Mayonnaise is also high in sodium, but avocado and yogurt do not have any added sodium, which is ideal for babies. It is recommended that babies under the age of 1 do not get additional added salt in their food. This recipe is a healthier alternative for babies and toddlers, supporting their developing kidneys and overall well-being.

Ingredients

Avocados are not just a trendy toast topper – they are a powerhouse of nutrients. Packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, avocados provide essential fatty acids crucial for your baby’s brain development. They also offer a creamy texture that mimics the richness of mayonnaise without the added unhealthy fats and cholesterol.

Greek yogurt, on the other hand, is an excellent source of protein, calcium, and probiotics. These elements are essential for your little one’s growth, bone development, and a healthy digestive system. Using Greek yogurt in place of mayonnaise not only cuts down on unhealthy fats but also adds a delightful tanginess to the egg salad.

How to make hard-boiled eggs

To cook hard-boiled eggs for egg salad and for babies in general, I make sure that the yolk is fully cooked through. I add eggs in boiling water for around 12-15 minutes to ensure the yolk is cooked fully.

Let your eggs sit in cold water before peeling!
