Banana Roll-Ups for Baby-Led Weaning

One delicious option for baby-led weaning is banana roll-ups! Bananas are a nutritional powerhouse, packed with vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, making them an excellent energy source for your baby.

Why Make Banana Roll-Ups?

This is a hit with little ones with its natural sweetness and mild flavor. It’s also great for parents because it’s super fast to whip together, and you can even make a no-cook version by using a pre-made tortilla (explained below).

This recipe also contains no added salt or sugar, which is perfect for little ones. The general recommendation is to avoid added salt for babies under 1 year of age and to avoid added sugar for kids under 2 years of age. However, this recipe has plenty of natural flavor and sweetness from banana instead!

Ingredients

To prepare delicious banana-peanut butter roll-ups, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Banana

The star of the show! Choose a ripe banana that’s soft but not overripe. It serves as the filling for the roll-ups and brings natural sweetness and nutrients to the dish.

Peanut butter

Peanut butter adds a creamy and nutty flavor to the roll-ups, complementing the sweetness of the banana. Opt for natural peanut butter without added sugars or oils for a healthier choice.

You can also switch it up and use other nut butters like almond butter, cashew butter, etc. This is a good alternative if your little one has a peanut allergy. If you have a peanut and tree nut allergy, sunflower seet butter aka sunbutter is a great alternative, too!

And for the batter…

I’ve included a simple recipe to make a pancake / crepe from scratch, but another delicious, no-cook option is to use a premade tortilla or crepe! If you choose to do this, look for one with little or no added sugar and salt if you are serving this to a young baby. If you choose to make your own, you will only need 2-3 simple ingredients…

Flour

The flour provides structure and helps to achieve the desired consistency in the batter. You can use all-purpose flour or opt for alternatives like whole wheat flour.

Egg

The egg will help bind the flour and create a smooth batter for coating the banana roll-ups. It adds a hint of richness and contributes to the texture of the final dish.

Water or Milk (optional)

You can add a small amount of water or milk to the batter if needed to achieve a smoother consistency. This is optional and can be adjusted based on the desired texture.
